Welcome

Welcome to our inaugural season!
The Chamber Orchestra of Edmonton Society is a not-for- profit organization with charitable status. The orchestra will bring you concerts of music ranging from classical to modern era.

Led by Artistic Director, Lidia Khaner, the orchestra will showcase the excellence of 16 local professional musicians and nurture the talents of young emerging musicians. In Edmonton the repertoire of major symphonic music is presented by our excellent Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and baroque music by our excellent Alberta Baroque Ensemble, while the Edmonton Chamber Music Society brings us soloists and small ensembles. The new Chamber Orchestra of Edmonton will add to the classical music scene by providing orchestral chamber music of the classical era to the 21st century.

Our 16-member orchestra will provide high quality performances by musicians, many who also perform with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. They will be joined by young professional musicians who will be given an opportunity to play with highly accomplished and experienced musicians.

Mission

The Society’s mission is to promote a greater knowledge, appreciation and enjoyment of orchestral chamber music through live performances, and educational initiatives by the Chamber Orchestra of Edmonton.

As a very young musician our Artistic Director, Lidia Khaner was given similar opportunities. She is very grateful that she had a chance to join one of the top European orchestras: the Polish Chamber Orchestra, which eventually became Sinfonia Varsovia, when she was a first- year student at the Music Academy in Warsaw, Poland. Lidia says, “I have learned from the best, as this orchestra became the most insightful and eye-opening school I could ever imagine”. She was given a chance play with: Yehudi Menuhin, Charles Dutoit, Hans Graff, Krzysztof Penderecki, Mstislav Rostropovich, Anne Sophie Mutter, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Pierre Rampall and many more.

And now by including young professional musicians in the new Chamber Orchestra we are giving the newest generation a chance to do the same, to learn next to the best musicians of Edmonton.
